Cytokinesis is the final stage of cell division or mitosis when the cell wall ruptures, splits in half and becomes two. It’s a process most of us learn about in high school biology and promptly forget and yet it is taking place in our bodies at all times as our skin, hair, nails, intestinal lining etc...replenish themselves. Looked at again from the artist’s perspective this banal, quotidian process appears surreal, uncanny, dramatic and beautiful. In this version I depict a stylized glial cell, one of the only types of brain cell to undergo mitosis.
