Installation: Cornucopia
"Cornucopia" is an intricate exploration of the hidden architectures that sustain life, inspired by the microscopic and biological worlds that lie beyond ordinary perception. Drawing on forms such as bacteria, spores, cellular networks and root systems, the work transforms scientific imagery into delicate, layered paper sculptures that invite viewers to contemplate the abundance, vulnerability, and interdependence of the natural world.
At the heart of Cornucopia is the human microbiome—the vast community of symbiotic bacteria that lives within us and challenges the idea of the self as separate or autonomous. By visualising these invisible ecologies, the work reimagines identity as a porous, interconnected process shaped as much by the organisms we host as by our own bodies. In doing so, it offers a contemporary vision of what it means to be human within a larger living system.
Paper, fragile yet organic, becomes the perfect medium to express this delicacy. Each piece begins as a patient observational drawing, then is translated through laser-cutting technology and painstakingly collaged by hand. This merging of craft and technology mirrors the fusion of art and science within the work, revealing the emotional and symbolic richness of the unseen worlds that underpin our shared existence.
